    Polynesia adalah subwilayah dari Oseania, yang terdiri dari 1.000 pulau-pulau yang terpencar di sepanjang Samudra Pasifik bagian tengah hingga selatan. Penduduk pribumi yang tinggal di pulau-pulau di Polinesia disebut sebagai orang Polinesia. Mereka memiliki banyak kesamaan umum, seperti kedekatan bahasa, praktik budaya, dan kepercayaan tradisional mereka. Pada beberapa abad yang lalu, Polinesia memiliki tradisi berlayar yang kuat dan memanfaatkan bintang sebagai alat navigasi mereka di malam hari. Negara terbesar di Polinesia adalah Selandia Baru.


    Geografi


    Luas gugus kepulauan ini (tidak termasuk luas perairan) sekitar 310,000 km2, sedangkan luas keseluruhan dengan perairannya yakni sekitar 3,600,000 km2. Berbatasan dengan Mikronesia dan Melanesia di sebelah barat. Sedangkan di sebelah selatan, timur, dan utara adalah laut lepas tanpa pulau, sehingga kepulauan paling selatan adalah Selandia Baru dan kepulauan paling utara adalah Kepulauan Hawaii. Kepulauan utama di gugus kepulauan ini adalah Polinesia Prancis.

    Wilayah Polinesia meliputi beberapa dependensi (wilayah bagian) dari beberapa negara seperti Inggris dan Amerika Serikat di antaranya: Hawaii, Kepulauan Cook, Pulau Norfolk, Niue, Kepulauan Pitcairn, dan Tokelau. Negara-negara berdaulat yang termasuk ke dalam Polinesia yaitu:
