    RG-33 adalah kendaraan lapis baja ringan anti-ranjau yang pada awalnya dirancang oleh BAE Systems Land Systems Afrika Selatan (sebelumnya Sistem Lahan OMC) Afrika Selatan, anak perusahaan dari BAE Systems. BAE Systems di AS memodifikasi besar-besaran kendaran ini dengan tambahan perlindungan, power train baru dan sistem suspensi ternaru. Kendaraan ini dirakit di sejumlah lokasi termasuk York, Pennsylvania. Kendaraan ini adalah salah satu dari beberapa kendaraan yang dioperasikan oleh Angkatan Bersenjata amerika SERIKAT di Irak di bawah MRAP program.


    Ikhtisar


    Kendaraan ini didasarkan pada rancangan RG-31, yang itu sendiri didasarkan pada rancangan kendaraan Mamba APC, meskipun begitu kendaraan ini kira-kira dua kali lebih berat dari RG-31. Ada dua varian untuk kendaraan ini, yaitu RG-33 standard yang memiliki empat roda dan berat 22 ton sementara RG-33L varian diperpanjang ini memiliki enam roda, dapat membawa dua kali lebih banyak orang-orang di belakang, dan memiliki berat 26 37 ton tergantung pada versi yang dirakit.
    Dipilih untuk menjadi produsen tunggal dari program Angkatan Darat Amerika Serikat senilai $2.88 miliar MRAP. Awal kontraknya sendiri hanya senilai $20 juta. Humas BAE Doug Coffey mengatakan bahwa pengujian tembak-langsung di Aberdeen, Maryland, terbukti RG-33 yang akan memberikan perlindungan menyeluruh diantara rancangan kendaraan MRAP kompetitor lainnya.
    RG33 diproduksi dalam beberapa konfigurasi termasuk kategori I 4×4, kategori II 6×6, ambulans darat lapis baja berat (DO) dan kendaraan special operations command (SOCOM) .
