    Selene adalah dewi bulan dalam mitologi Yunani. Selene merupakan saudara dari Helios dewa Matahari, dan Eos dewi fajar, yang merupakan anak dari Hiperion dan Theia. Padanan Selene dalam mitologi Romawi adalah Luna. Ia digambarkan sebagai seorang wanita yang mengenakan gaun keperakan, mengenakan mahkota bulan sabit dengan membawa obor dan mengendarai keretanya melintasi langit malam. Wajah Selene selalu terlihat pucat karena ia senantiasa berduka mengenang kekasihnya, Endymion. Dalam mitologi diceritakan Endymion adalah seorang pemuda yang sangat tampan, yang membuat Selene meminta Zeus untuk mengabulkan keinginan Endymion untuk bisa tidur abadi sehingga tetap awet muda dan tak pernah meninggalkan Selene.
