Ratu Sirikit merupakan istri dari Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), Raja Thailand yang lahir 12 Agustus 1932. Nama gelar resminya adalah Somdej Phra Nangchao Sirikit Phra Boromarajininat (Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Ratu Sirikit) (สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ).




Awal


Dilahirkan dengan nama Mom Rajawongse Sirikit Kitiyakara, Dia adalah puteri pertama dari Kolonel Mom Chao Nakkhatra Mangkala Kitiyakara yang dekat dengan keluarga kerajaan dan Mom Luang Bua Kitiyakara. Gelar "Mom Rajawongse" menandakan bahwa ia adalah anak dari Mom Chao. Kakeknya adalah HRH Pangeran Kitiyakara Voralaksana, Pangeran Chandaburi, anak dari Raja Rama V, dan memiliki hubungan saudara dengan HRH Pangeran Mahidol dari Songkla, ayah dari Raja Bhumibol.
Sirikit dilahirkan di rumah Jenderal Chao Phraya Wongsanuprapat (Mom Rajawongse Staan Snidwongse), kakek dari sisi ibunya, di Bangkok dan dididik di Sekolah Santo Fransiskus Xaverius, sebuah sekolah Katolik Perancis. Selama masa kecilnya, ayahnya merupakan duta besar Thailand di Perancis, Denmark, dan Inggris. Sirikit pernah bersekolah di negara tersebut dan Swiss.




Pernikahan


Selama mengenyam pendidikan di Swiss, ia bertemu dengan Bhumibol, yang saat itu belajar di sana. Ketika Bhumibol mengalami kecelakaan sepeda motor dan dibawa ke rumah sakit di Lausanne, Sirikit kerap membesuknya. Pada 19 Juli 1949, mereka bertunangan di Lausanne. Pada Maret 1950, Bhumibol kembali ke Thailand dan Sirikit menyertainya hingga mereka melangsungkan pernikahan pada 28 April 1950 di Istana Pathumwan.
Bhumibol dan Sirikit memiliki empat anak:

(Dulu HRH) Puteri Ubol Ratana, lahir 5 April 1951 di Lausanne, Swiss.
HRH Putera Mahkota Maha Vajiralongkorn, lahir 28 Juli 1952;
HRH Puteri Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, lahir 2 April 1955;
HRH Puteri Chulabhorn Walailak, lahir 4 Juli 1957.
Salah satu cucunya, Bhumi Jensen (dikenal juga sebagai Khun Poom) meninggal sebagai salah satu korban Gempa bumi Samudra Hindia 2004. Ia adalah putera dari Puteri Ubol Ratana dengan suaminya yang berkebangsaan Amerika Serikat. Seperti suaminya, Sirikit sangat terkenal dan dihormati di Thailand. Hari ulang tahunnya menjadi hari libur nasional dan ditetapkan sebagai Hari Ibu di Thailand. Sirikit dikenal pada kegiatan amalnya. Ia merupakan presiden Palang Merah Thailand sejak tahun 1956. Ia juga menaruh perhatian yang besar pada pengungsi dari Kamboja dan Myanmar yang melarikan diri ke Thailand.
