Snare drum merupakan drum yang dilengkapi dengan beberapa baris tali senar (terbuat dari kabel baja, atau plastik) yang direntangkan secara melintang pada membran yang terdapat pada sisi sebelah bawah. Beberapa jenis snare drum yang umumnya digunakan dalam organisasi kemiliteran menambahkan sejumlah senar tambahan pada sisi bawah sebelah dalam dengan tujuan untuk mendapatkan suara yang lebih jernih, caixa brazil bahkan meletakkan senar pada membran di sisi atas. Snare drum merupakan salah satu komponen drum terpenting (jika bukan yang terpenting) pada drum kit.
Pemanfaatannya dalam musik populer, terutama pada drum kit rock (musik), snare drum biasanya digunakan untuk memainkan pola backbeat
Cara menggunakan
Seperti halnya alat musik perkusi lainnya, snare drum dibunyikan dengan cara dipukul dengan menggunakan alat pemukul khusus (yang lebih dikenal sebagai drumstick) termasuk pula kuas dan rute, untuk bunyi yang lebih lembut. Saat dimainkan menggunakan stik, drummer bisa memukul snare drum pada membran, pinggiran membran, atau bahkan stem besi penutup pada sisi-sisinya. Masing-masing jenis pukulan tersebut akan menghasilkan suara yang berbeda-beda.
Snare drum snare drum umumnya terbuat dari bermacam-macam ragam jenis kayu, ataupun metal, biasanya diameter snare drum berkisar 14 inci. Marching snare drum umumnya berukuran lebih dalam dibandingkan ukuran snare drum biasa yang digunakan pada orkestra, ataupun drumkit.
Sejarah
Snare drum diperkirakan merupakan turunan dari Tabor (drum pada abad pertengahan) yang umumnya digunakan pada masa perang. Drum sederhana dengan tali senar sederhana ini menjadi populer dikalangan militer swiss pada era tahun 1400-1500-an sebagai akibat dari pengaruh militer Ottoman turki yang juga menggunakan drum. Pengembangan selanjutnya pada tahun 1600-an, dengan menggunakan baut untuk mengaitkan tali senar yang menghasilkan suara yang lebih jernih. Sementara snare drum dari metal mulai muncul sekitar tahun 1900-an.
Membran snare drum pada umumnya terbuat dari kulit binatang, penghargaan atas temuan penggunaan plastik sebagai membran (mylar) diberikan kepada Marion "Chick" Evans yang pertama kali muncul pada tahun 1956.

Jan 14, 2019 · That number of 190-220 Hz refers to the fundamental tone of the drum which is the product of batter head tension, snare side tension, and drum shell depth, sometimes wood density/hardness etc. I would first make sure the snare side head is tight enough.

Aug 16, 2005 · 195/205 is great for a super-fat wet sounding snare. One thing that helps tremendously is to have as many drum-keys as you can on hand when tuning. I use 5-6 for very even tensioning. And with the TB I often find the lugs at the 3 and 9 clock position will give you a weird reading, to cure that just move the TB a few lugs over.

Apr 21, 2015 · I use all of the standard sizes (4x14, 5 and 5.5x14, 6.5x14 and even a 7x14.) To me the heads are more critical than the depth and the reason I play so many sizes is I have around 50 snare drums and rotate them a lot.

Nov 30, 2024 · That drum appears to have the full sized double ended lugs. My 4x14 (ordered around 2005) has the short double lugs like the earlier Progressive Jazz model of the 1960s. I'm not 100% certain but I think the USA in GUSANIK indicates that the drum in question is a USA Maple model which was a slightly lower cost version of the USA Custom line.
