Summit Valley lies in the transition zone between the Mojave Desert and Southern California Mountains and Valleys ecosystems east of the Cajon Pass and in between Hesperia, California, to the north and the San Bernardino National Forest to the south.
Accessed from Topanga Canyon Boulevard south of Mulholland Drive, 652-acre Edmund D. Edelman Park provides hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians access to a network of trails into the gently rolling hills of the Summit Valley and upper Topanga Canyon.

Native Americans traveled the valley moving from winter to summer residences. They left grinding rocks and arrowheads in the valley and petroglyphs in many nearby locations.

Summit Valley is a beautiful subalpine meadow that is host to 20 species of mammals, at least 100 species of birds, more than 500 species of plants, and numerous species of butterflies. The trailhead is at the parking area off Soda Springs Rd. just beyond the railroad crossing.
