    Talek atau talk (dari bahasa Arab: التَّلْك) ialah mineral yang memiliki kekerasan 1 skala Mohs, menjadikannya sebagai mineral paling lembut. Merupakan silikat magnesium terhidrasi, talek memiliki rumus kimia Mg3Si4O10(OH)2. Talek tidak larut dalam air.


    Pembentukan


    Talek merupakan mineral metamorf yang dihasilkan dari mineral magnesium seperti piroksen, amfibol, olivin, dan mineral serupa lainnya dengan adanya karbon dioksida dan air. Hal ini biasa dikenal sebagai karbonasi talek atau steatisasi dan memproduksi sederetan cadas yang dikenal sebagai karbonat talek. Talek biasanya terbentuk melalui hidrasi dan karbonasi serpentin.
    Beberapa studi telah menunjukkan bahwa talek berhubungan dengan kejadian kanker paru, kulit, dan ovarium. Talek dieksploitasi di sejumlah negara seperti di Eropa, Amerika Serikat, dan Republik Rakyat Tiongkok.


    Sifat


    Dalam skala Mohs, talek merupakan mineral dengan tingkat kekerasan yang terendah. Nilainya berada pada tingkat 1. Jenis mineral pada tingkat 1 memiliki sifat permukaan yang mudah tergores hanya dengan menggunakan kuku.


    Pemanfaatan


    Talek merupakan mineral yang dimanfaatkan dalam industri kertas, kosmetika, kompor, bahan plastik, minyak gemuk, dan keramik. Dalam bidang kedokteran, talek digunakan sebagai bahan pleurodesis untuk mencegah pneumotoraks kambuhan.
