The Good Doctor adalah serial televisi drama medis Amerika Serikat yang berdasarkan serial pemenang penghargaan tahun 2013 dari Korea Selatan dengan nama yang sama. Daniel Dae Kim, sang aktor, pertama kali melihat serial tersebut dan membeli hak untuk perusahaan produksinya. Dia mulai mengadaptasi serial tersebut dan akhirnya membawanya ke CBS, tempat kerjanya pada tahun 2015. CBS memutuskan untuk tidak membuat pilot. Karena Kim merasa sangat kuat dengan serial ini, dia mengambil kembali hak-haknya dari CBS. Akhirnya, Sony Pictures Television dan Kim membuat kesepakatan dan mendatangkan David Shore, pembuat drama medis Fox, House, untuk mengembangkan serial ini.
Serial ini diproduksi oleh Sony Pictures Television dan ABC Studios, yang terkait dengan perusahaan produksi Shore Z Productions, 3AD dan Entermedia. David Shore berperan sebagai showrunner dan Daniel Dae Kim adalah eksekutif produser untuk serial ini.

Serial ini mendapat komitmen Pilot televisi di ABC setelah serangkaian percobaan dimana sebelumnya tidak direspon di CBS Television Studios pada tahun 2015; The Good Doctor diperintahkan untuk membuat serial pada bulan Mei 2017. Pada tanggal 3 Oktober 2017, ABC menyelesaikan serial ini untuk satu musim penuh dengan 18 episode. Serial ini difilmkan di Vancouver, British Columbia. Pada bulan Maret 2018, ABC memperbarui serial ini untuk musim kedua.
