    Thomas Ruggles Pynchon, Jr. (lahir 8 Mei 1937) adalah seorang penulis Amerika yang dikenal dengan karya-karya fiksinya yang padat dan kompleks. Datang dari Long Island, Pynchon menghabiskan dua tahun di Angkatan Laut Amerika Serikat dan mendapat gelar sarjana sastra Inggris dari Universitas Cornell.
