The episodes are produced by Toei Animation, and are based on the final 26 volumes of the 5.180.24.3/info/dragon" target="_blank">Dragon 5.180.24.3/info/ball" target="_blank">Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama.
The 26-episode 5.180.24.3/info/season" target="_blank">season originally ran from May to November 1992 in Japan on Fuji Television. The first English airing of the series was on Cartoon Network where Funimation Entertainment's dub of the series ran from October to November 2000.
Funimation released the 5.180.24.3/info/season" target="_blank">season in a box set on May 27, 2008 and in June 2009, announced that they would be re-releasing 5.180.24.3/info/dragon" target="_blank">Dragon 5.180.24.3/info/ball" target="_blank">Ball 5.180.24.3/info/z" target="_blank">Z in a new seven volume set called the "5.180.24.3/info/dragon" target="_blank">Dragon Boxes". Based on the original series masters with frame-by-frame restoration, the first set was released November 10, 2009.
