Saints Borys and Hlib Church (Ukrainian: Церква Святих Мучеників Бориса і Гліба) is a parish of the same name of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Shumliany, Saranchuky rural hromada, Ternopil Raion, Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine. It is an architectural monument of national importance.
History
An old oak church is located on top of a hill in the village of Shumliany. Numbers carved into the rafters indicate that the construction lasted from 1696 to 1711. Legends say that there was a monastery near the village at that time. Not far away in the forest there is a "Priest's Well". The stone cross near the church is a tombstone to Mrs. Shumlianska, the mother of Lviv Bishop Yosyf Shumlyansky.
Near the cross in the churchyard is a statue of the Mother of God, built in 1924. Church rituals are performed there, such as: the blessing of water, the blessing on Easter, and the blessing of vegetables on Savior's Day, while young people lead round dances and sing haiivky. There is a custom in the village to light fires near the church at night on Good Friday.
