Loud cleans with a little hair? Pretty hard to beat many of the Tweed amps. Depends how much volume is needed I suppose. Pro, Super, Bassman, Twin, any of those would be amazing.

I play guitar but just bought a bass to screw around with and play a few songs with fun bass leads (e.g. Gratitude by Beastie Boys). At first I thought this was a stupid question, but the internet is full of mixed messages on the topic. So, what do you say?:

There is all sorts of nonsense around like the claims the '68 Customs "have a Bassman tone stack". Yeah, two capacitors in the tone controls are the same. Everything else is different.

    Feb 8, 2022 · I think a Tweed Bassman is one of the very best sounding bass amps you can play through. It sounds so natural, real, woody, detailed, just gorgeous. No, it's not loud enough for most bands live. It doesn't have tremendous bottom end. You will blow the speakers if you play too loud. But the tone is just as good as it gets.

    Jan 27, 2019 · As I recall the OT didn't die, but it got a carbon arc on a power tube socket and it (plus the tube) had to be replaced. Of course the Super is 2 ohms, but I'd still be a bit nervous running a Bassman at 4 ohms into a 16 ohm cab. Actually check that, my Dumble 102 build has a '65 Bassman OT in it, and I've ran it quite a bit into my 16 ohm cabs.
