Brisbane adalah ibu kota sekaligus kota terpadat negara bagian Queensland dan merupakan kota dengan kepadatan penduduk terbanyak ketiga di Australia. Kota ini mempunyai penduduk sekitar 1.131.155 jiwa (Agustus 2016) di pusat kota dan ±2,56 juta jiwa di wilayah metropolitan. Kota ini terletak di wilayah Hilir sungai Brisbane yang juga merupakan sungai terpanjang di wilayah tenggara negara bagian Queensland.
Brisbane merupakan salah satu kota tertua di wilayah Australia yang didirikan di wilayah tanah tradisional milik suku aborigin Turrbal. Berdasarkan tradisi suku Turrbal, wilayah yang sekarang menjadi kota Brisbane dahulu disebut dengan nama Meanjin atau Mianjin oleh penduduk suku Turrbal. Sementara itu, nama Brisbane sendiri sebagai suatu wilayah kota diperoleh karena posisinya yang berada di daerah aliran hilir sungai Brisbane yang memperoleh namanya dari nama gubernur negara bagian New South Wales pada masa pendirian kota ini yakni Gubernur Sir Thomas Makdougall Brisbane.
Brisbane mempunyai sebuah bandar udara internasional, yakni Bandara Internasional Brisbane yang merupakan bandara tersibuk ketiga di wilayah Australia. Dalam kota, transportasi umum yang tersedia adalah bus dan kereta api yang terhubung dengan jaringan perkeretaapian yang besar di wilayah tenggara Queensland. Selain itu, Brisbane juga pernah menjadi tuan rumah dari pelbagai acara level internasional seperti Pesta Olahraga Persemakmuran tahun 1982, World Expo tahun 1988, Konferensi Tingkat Tinggi G20 Brisbane 2014. Kota ini pun akan menjadi tuan rumah dari Olimpiade Musim Panas 2032.

Kota Brisbane sebagai salah satu kota terbesar di Australia mempunyai jumlah penduduk sekitar 1.131.155 jiwa (Agustus 2016) di daerah pusat kota dan 2.560.720 jiwa di wilayah metropolitannya. Dengan jumlah tersebut, Brisbane menjadi kota dengan jumlah penduduk terbanyak ketiga di daratan Australia setelah Sydney di negara bagian New South Wales dan Melbourne di negara bagian Victoria.
