Excavata adalah kumpulan utama dari eukariota bersel satu. Kategori filogenetik Excavata terdiri atas bermacam-macam bentuk yang hidup bebas atau bersimbiosis dan termasuk beberapa parasit manusia yang penting.
Ciri-ciri
Banyak excavata telah kehilangan mitokondria 'klasik' - organisme ini sering disebut 'amitokondriata' (yang berarti 'tidak bermitokondria'), meski kebanyakan, mungkin semua, tetap memiliki organel mitokondia dalam bentuk yang sangat termodifikasi. Heterolobosea (Percolozoa) dan Euglenozoa tampaknya berhubungan dan disatukan oleh keberadaan krista diskoid dalam mitokondrianya (Superfilum Discicristata).
