Goethe-Institut (Jerman: [ˈɡøːtə ɪnstiˈtuːt]; bahasa Inggris: Goethe Institute; bahasa Indonesia: Institut Goethe) adalah lembaga non-profit yang beroperasi di seluruh dunia, untuk mempromosikan pembelajaran bahasa Jerman dan kebudayaan Jerman di luar negeri serta mendorong perubahan dan relasi antarbudaya ke arah yang positif di negara bersangkutan.
Goethe-Institut menyumbangkan pengetahuan tentang Jerman dengan memberikan informasi mengenai budaya, masyarakat dan politik di Jerman. Ini termasuk pertukaran film, musik, teater, dan sastra. Kebudayaan masyarakat, ruang baca, serta pusat ujian dan bahasa Goethe telah memainkan peran dalam kebijakan budaya dan pendidikan dari Jerman selama hampir 60 tahun.
Mitra dari Goethe-Institut adalah lembaga kebudayaan publik maupun swasta, negara federal, pemerintah daerah dan dunia perdagangan. Sebagian besar anggaran keseluruhan Goethe-Institut adalah hibah tahunan dari Kantor Luar Negeri Jerman dan Kantor berita Jerman. Hubungan dengan Kementerian Luar Negeri diatur oleh kesepakatan umum. Pendapatan yang telah dihasilkan sendiri serta kontribusi dari sponsor dan pelanggan, telah memperluas lingkup kerja Goethe-Institut.
Organisasi
Goethe-Institut didanai oleh pemerintah Jerman, dan memiliki kurang lebih 3.300 karyawan dan keseluruhan anggaran belanja sekitar 278 miliar euro adalah bruto, lebih dari setengahnya berasal dari kursus bahasa dan biaya ujian. Goethe-Institut menawarkan beasiswa, termasuk pembimbing, untuk siswa dari luar Jerman, serta para guru yang ingin mengajar di Jerman. Salah satu pilihan kriteria yang ada dalam beasiswa tersebut adalah untuk kebutuhan finansial maupun sosial.

Ujian
Goethe-Institut mengembangkan ujian bagi para siswa yang mempelajari bahasa Jerman sebagai bahasa asing (Deutsch als Fremdsprache, DaF) untuk semua level, dari A1 sampai C2. Ujian ini dapat diambil di Jerman maupun negara lainnya dan sudah disesuaikan dengan Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFL).
Penghargaan
Pada tahun 2005, bersama dengan Alliance française, Società Dante Alighieri, British Council, Instituto Cervantes, dan Instituto Camões, Goethe-Institut dianugerahi penghargaan Prince of Asturias Award untuk prestasi di bidang komunikasi dan kemanusiaan.
Pada tahun 2007, Goethe-Institut menerima Konrad Duden Prize untuk karya dalam pengembangan Bahasa Jerman.
