    Westin Hotels & Resorts adalah salah satu jaringan hotel asal Amerika Serikat. Didirikan pada tahun 1930, Westin merupakan merek hotel kelas atas yang terkenal karena komitmen mereka terhadap kesejahteraan hidup. Salah satu produk khas Westin adalah Westin Heavenly Bed and Bath yang dijual untuk umum. Selain itu, pada tahun 2008, Westin bekerja sama dengan SuperFoods Partners LLC menyajikan menu SuperFoods Rx™, yang memadukan beberapa bahan makanan sehingga nutrisi dari menu tersebut dapat dimaksimalkan. Konsep tersebut dikenal dengan "sinergi makanan". Sejak tahun 2016, Westin berada di bawah naungan Marriott International.
    Hingga tahun 2023, terdapat 243 hotel dengan kapasitas kamar sebanyak 88.157 yang bermerek Westin di seluruh dunia.


    Sejarah




    = Western Hotels (1930–1963)

    Pada tahun 1930, dua pengusaha hotel asal Seattle, Severt Thurston dan Frank Dupar, berbincang-bincang di Yakima, Washington dan memutuskan untuk menggabungkan usaha perhotelan mereka. Bersama dengan Peter dan Adolph Schmidt, yang mengelola lima hotel di wilayah Puget Sound, Thurston dan Dupar mendirikan Western Hotels, Inc.
    Western Hotels berkembang di wilayah Amerika Serikat Barat antara tahun 1930 dan 1950. Pada tahun 1955, perusahaan ini mengambil alih pengelolaan Olympic Hotel, sebuah hotel bersejarah di Seattle. Hotel ini selanjutnya dijadikan sebagai markas besar Western Hotels tepat pada ulang tahunnya yang ke-25.
    Western Hotels memulai proses konsolidasi identitas properti-properti yang mereka kelola pada tahun 1958. Di tahun yang sama, mereka mengambil alih 3 hotel di Guatemala yang sekaligus menandakan perluasan usaha mereka di luar Amerika Serikat dan Kanada. Pada tahun 1961, Western Hotels membuka hotel baru pertama mereka, The Bayshore Inn, di Vancouver.
    Edward Carlson menjabat sebagai Presiden Western Hotels pada tahun 1960. Di bawah kepemimpinannya, Western Hotels mengelola rumah makan yang terletak di atas Space Needle. Carlson sendiri berperan dalam perancangan Space Needle; salah satu sketsa Fernsehturm Stuttgart yang ia gambar di sebuah serbet menjadi inspirasi bentuk bangunan tersebut. Selain Space Needle, Western Hotels juga mengelola penginapan di kapal QSMV Dominion Monarch yang menepi saat pameran Century 21 Exposition di Seattle pada tahun 1962.


    = Western International Hotels (1963–1981)

    Untuk menandakan perkembangan usaha mereka ke seluruh dunia, Western Hotels mengganti nama mereka menjadi Western International Hotels pada bulan Januari 1963. Mereka mulai melantai di American Stock Exchange pada tahun 1960-an. Antara tahun 1965 dan 1970, mereka sempat menjalin kemitraan dengan Hotel Corporation of America (sekarang Sonesta), dimana keseluruhan 72 hotel yang mereka dikelola dipasarkan dengan nama HCA and Western Hotels. Mereka juga menjalin kemitraan serupa dengan Trust House Hotels untuk mengelola hotel-hotel di Britania Raya.
    Pada tahun 1970, UAL Corporation, induk dari United Airlines, mengakuisisi Western International Hotels.


    = Westin Hotels (1981–sekarang)

    Pada tanggal 5 Januari 1981, Western International Hotels bersalin nama menjadi Westin Hotels. Hotel pertama yang menyandang nama baru ini adalah The Westin Seattle (sebelumnya Washington Plaza Hotel) pada tanggal 1 September 1981. Markas perusahaan dipindahkan ke Westin Building yang terletak berseberangan dengan hotel tersebut.
    Pada tahun 1987, pasca kegagalan UAL dalam membentuk sebuah konglomerat, Allegis, yang direncakan mencakup Westin Hotels, The Hertz Corporation, dan Hilton International Hotels, Westin dijual ke Aoki Corporation asal Jepang seharga $1,35 miliar.
    Pada tahun 1994, dikarenakan kerugian yang mereka alami, Aoki menjual Westin ke Goldman Sachs dan dana investasi lahan yasan Starwood Capital Group seharga $357 juta. Bersama dengan ITT Sheraton yang dibeli oleh Starwood pada tahun 1998, Westin membentuk Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, salah satu perusahaan perhotelan terbesar di dunia. Westin mengalami beberapa perkembangan di bawah kepemimpinan Starwood, diantaranya diluncurkannya produk Westin Heavenly Bed dan Bath pada tahun 1999, beserta merek sempalan Element by Westin pada tahun 2008.
    Pada tahun 2016, Marriott International membeli Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Diposisikan dalam kategori "Distinctive Premium", Westin ditargetkan untuk pencari penginapan kelas atas yang menawarkan program terkait kesejahteraan hidup.


    The Westin di Indonesia


    Westin pertama kali hadir di Indonesia pada tahun 1996, saat jaringan hotel ini masih berada di bawah Starwood, ketika The Westin Surabaya dibuka di Jalan Embong Malang, Kelurahan Kedungdoro, Kecamatan Tegalsari, Kota Surabaya. Pada tahun 2002, pengelolaan hotel ini beralih ke Marriott International, yang memberikannya nama JW Marriott Surabaya. Pasca akuisisi Marriott atas Starwood, Westin kembali membuka cabang di Surabaya pada tahun 2020, sebagai bagian dari kompleks Pakuwon Mall Surabaya.
    Hingga 2023, Marriott International mengelola 4 hotel Westin di Indonesia.
