    Shinya Yamanaka (lahir 4 September 1962) adalah seorang dokter dan peneliti sel punca warga-negara Jepang yang memperoleh Penghargaan Nobel Kedokteran tahun 2012 bersama John Gurdon. Yamanaka juga merupakan profesor dari Kyoto University, Jepang.


    Pendidikan


    Lahir di Higashiōsaka, ia mendapat gelar M.D nya dari Universitas Kobe pada tahun 1987 dan gelar Ph.D. nya dari Universitas Osaka City tahun 1993. Setelah itu ia bekerja di rumah sakit National Osaka sebagai dokter bedah ortopedi dan mendapat beasiswa pasca doktoral di Institut Gladstone San Fransisko.


    Pengakuan


    Tahun 2007 Yamanaka mendapat penghargaan Time Person of the Year edisi majalah Time Yamanaka juga masuk dalam nominasi finalis Time 100 tahun 2008.
    Pada tahun 2010, Yamanaka mendapat penghargaan Kyoto atas jasanya dalam pemrograman ulang sel-sel dewasa kulit prekursor pluripotential.
    Pada bulan September 2010, ia mendapat penghargaan atas hasil kerjanya dalam bidang biologi dan sel punca.
    Yamanaka masuk dalam daftar satu dari 15 ilmuwan Asia yang berpengaruh versi majalah Asian Scientist pada 15 Mei 2011.
    Bulan Juni 2011 ia mendapat penghargaan perdana McEwen Award for Innovation; ia berbagi hadiah $100.000 dengan Kazutoshi Takahashi.
    Pada bulan Juni 2012, ia mendapat penghargaan Millennium Technology Prize atas hasil kerjanya dalam hal sel punca. Ia berbagi hadiah 1,2 juta euro dengan Linus Torvalds, pembuat sistem operasi Linux

    Bulan Oktober 2012, ia bersama rekannya John Gurdon peneliti sel punca mendapat penghargaan Nobel dalam bidang fisiologi atau kedokteran.
