Amber Patrice Riley (lahir 13 Februari 1986) adalah penyanyi dan aktris Amerika yang namanya dikenal berkat perannya di Glee sebagai Mercedes Jones dan sebagai pemenang musim 17 dari Dancing with the Stars.




Awal kehidupan


Amber Riley lahir di Los Angeles, California, putri dari Tiny (née Hightower) dan Elwin Riley. Riley mengikuti audisi untuk American Idol ketika dia berumur 17 tahun, pada musim kedua, tetapi ditolak oleh produser. Dia lulus dari La Mirada High School di La Mirada, California pada 2004. Guru dramanya adalah Mrs. Erin Strauss.




Karier


Riley memainkan peran Mercedes Jones dalam Glee selama empat musim pertama, dan sebagai bintang tamu berulang pada musim kelima. Dia banyak menyanyikan sejumlah lagu solo, termasuk "Respect", "Bust Your Windows", "Hate on Me", "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going", "Beautiful", "Bridge over Troubled Water", "I Look to You", "Hell to the No", "Ain't No Way", "Try a Little Tenderness", "Spotlight", "All I Want for Christmas Is You" dan, tiga hari setelah kematian Whitney Houston, versi penghormatan dari "I Will Always Love You". Dia juga memainkan Dr. Frank-N-Furter dalam episode The Rocky Horror Glee Show, menyanyikan lagu utama "Sweet Transvestite" untuk ulasan yang umumnya positif dari para kritikus. Untuk perannya sebagai Mercedes Jones, dia memenangkan Screen Actors Guild Award dan menerima nominasi untuk NAACP Image Award dan Teen Choice Award.
Riley muncul di MTV VMAs 2010, menyanyikan lagu kebangsaan di Konvensi Nasional Demokratik 2012, dan saat ini membuat album solo. Dia juga menulis lagu berjudul "Leave a Light On" untuk grup musik Britania The Saturdays yang ditampilkan di album mereka Living for the Weekend.
Riley memenangkan musim ke-17 dari Dancing with the Stars, dan bermitra dengan juara lima kali satu-satunya dalam acara itu, Derek Hough. Riley dan Hough memiliki rekor tertinggi pada minggu pertama dengan skor 27, menerima 5 nilai sempurna 30, dan hanya menerima skor yang lebih rendah dari 8 pada satu kali. Riley adalah wanita Afrika-Amerika pertama yang memenangkan Dancing With the Stars.

Filantropi


Pada 2011, Riley bertindak sebagai juru bicara pada kampanye Do Something dan event tahunan kedua VH1 Save The Music Foundation "Battle for the Bands." Riley membintangi kampanye PSA dan terlibat penggemar melalui media sosial untuk berpartisipasi dalam kampanye yang memobilisasi kaum muda dalam perjuangan untuk menjaga pendidikan musik di sekolah-sekolah. Riley juga telah bekerja sama dengan kampanye State Farm "Celebrate My Drive" untuk mengadvokasi kesadaran keamanan untuk pengemudi pemula, dan dorongan untuk pemuda.
